MINNEAPOLIS — The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Minnesota Chapter’s Walk MS and Bike MS events visit Duluth in 2008. Walk and bike events raise funds to support programs and services for the estimated 9,000 people with multiple sclerosis in Minnesota and western Wisconsin and fund research for a cure.

Walk MS: Christopher & Banks Duluth Walk presented by Anchor Bank

The Walk MS: Christopher & Banks Duluth Walk presented by Anchor Bank is held Sunday, May 4, at Miller Hill Mall. Participants walk around the mall and choose the distance that’s right for them. Although there is no pledge minimum for Walk MS, participants are required to raise pledges.

Including the Duluth walk, there are 17 walks held across Minnesota and western Wisconsin. This year the 21st annual Walk MS is expected to raise a total of more than $2 million to support programs and services for people with multiple sclerosis in Minnesota and western Wisconsin and research to find a cure. To learn more or register, visit http://www.mssociety.org/ or call 1-800-582-5296.

Bike MS: Larkin Hoffman MS 150 Ride

The 2008 Larkin Hoffman MS 150 Ride, a two-day, 150-mile ride held June 6 to 8, takes cyclists from Proctor to the Twin Cities with an overnight at Grand Casino Hinckley. Last year, approximately 3,000 cyclists participated in the ride, raising more than $2.2 million to help end MS. The registration fee is $40 until April 30. A $300 minimum pledge is required to participate. For more information, visit http://www.bikems.org/ or call 1-800-582-5296.

Bike MS: Star Tribune The Ride Across Minnesota

Duluth also hosts the finish line for the 19th annual Bike MS: Star Tribune TRAM, a five-day bike ride July 20 to 25. This year, The Ride Across Minnesota takes cyclists through Minnesota’s Iron Range and the North Shore of Lake Superior. Cyclists leave from Grand Rapids, Monday, July 21, and ride through Chisholm, Biwabik and Two Harbors before crossing the finish line at the University of Minnesota-Duluth Campus Friday, July 25.

The National MS Society, Minnesota Chapter anticipates more than 1,000 cyclists will bike to create a world free of MS at the 2008 Bike MS: Star Tribune TRAM and raise more than $1 million.

Bike MS is fully supported and noncompetitive. A registration fee and $300 minimum pledge are required to participate. For more information, visit http://www.bikems.org/ or call 1-800-582-5296.

About Walk MS and Bike MS events

The National MS Society believes that moving is not just something you can or can’t do, but rather is who you are. This is why we sponsor events like Walk MS and Bike MS — to raise funds for research, as well as comprehensive programs and services for people with MS — moving closer to a world free of MS. Other 2008 Minnesota Chapter walk and bike events include Challenge Walk MS: Twin Cities, a three-day, 50-mile walk in the Twin Cities, Sept. 12 to 14, and Bike MS: Allianz Twin Cities Ride, a one-day, 30- or 60-mile ride in Maplewood, Minn.
